To whom it may concern,

I lived directly behind your location on Veterans Blvd. in Metairie all of my life and was raised on Pancho’s. Much to my delight I now see that you are re-opening at the location on Airline Drive and Labarre Road. I have organized a party for the grand opening of your new location.The confirmed list of guests is 850 people and quickly growing. I have attached a link to the invite page on “Facebook”. As of right now we have the party set for Friday March 27th 2009.

If by chance you will be opening sooner or later than that can you contact me and let me know? We are true and loyal Pancho’s fanatics and will actually be tailgating in the parking lot that morning. We as a group want to ensure that this location will be profitable for you and always around for us. That being said If all goes well You will have a full house for a while to come.

It’s time to increase the penalties on the statute designed to curb parade violence. (LSA-R.S. 14:95.2.1).  It looks like waterguns and the the bayonets carried by the Citadel guys are exempt. The guns supposedly carried by the alleged perps on 2nd and St. Charles definitely are not.

But the Legislature should increase the maximum sentence from 5 to 25 years just in case the main charges can’t stick. It should also figure out a a way to increase rewards for information leading to arrests for parade-related charges and advertise these laws on radio stations and billboards in crime-ridden areas near parade routes.

Let’s send a message to the gangsters. If you want to shoot another thug, do it in the hood, not at a Mardi Gras parade.

LSA-R.S. 14:95.2.1

Illegal carrying of a firearm at a parade with any firearm used in the commission of a crime of violence

A. Whoever commits the crime of illegal carrying of weapons pursuant to R.S. 14:95 with any firearm used in the commission of a crime of violence as defined in R.S. 14:2(B), within one thousand feet of any parade or demonstration for which a permit is issued by a governmental entity, shall be fined not more than two thousand dollars, or imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not less than one year nor more than five years, or both.

Any sentence issued pursuant to the provisions of this Subsection and any sentence issued pursuant to a violation of a crime of violence as defined in R.S. 14:2(B) shall be served consecutively.

B. As used in this Section, the following words mean:

(1) “Firearm” means any pistol, revolver, rifle, shotgun, machine gun, submachine gun, or assault rifle, which is designed to fire or is capable of firing fixed cartridge ammunition or from which a shot or projectile is discharged by an explosive.

(2) “Parade” for the purposes of this Section shall be defined as any celebration of Mardi Gras or directly related pre-Lenten or carnival related festivities, school parades, parish parades, state parades or municipal parades, or any demonstration for which a permit is issued by a governmental entity.

(3) “Parade route” means any public sidewalk, street, highway, bridge, alley, road, or other public passageway upon which a parade travels. C. Lack of knowledge that the prohibited act occurred on or within one thousand feet of the parade route shall not be a defense. C

New Orleans Not Very Miserable Monday, Feb 9 2009

Congratulations are in order for the City of New Orleans, which did not rank on the Forbes.com’s top ten list of America’s Most Miserable Cities. Instead, cities like Chicago, Memphis, and Flint, Michigan topped the list.

However, the results were misleading as the study was done prior to the imminent reopening of Pancho’s Mexican Buffet.

  • I have heard from a good source that Panchos will be reopening sometime in Feb/March 09 at the old Ho-Ho’s Buffet location in Metairie at Airline and Causeway Blvd.
  • I heard that Panchos will be openening soon at the old Steak and Ale location on Vets! I can’t wait!
  • I was told that Pancho’s will be opening before Christmas 2008. Could you please offer any information about this. Please open a new Pancho’s. Everyone I know misses Pancho’s. It would be great if you could open one on the Westbank of Jefferson Parish. Like Jerry said “If you build, they will come”.

  • Just couldn’t happen to a better place. And what is with them not having insurance to cover Katrina’s damages?? They certainly were packed with people every weekend so money obviously wasn’t an issue. Sigh..
  • Here it is, Nov 2007 and still no plans to re-open/re-establish Panchos anywhere within driving distance of New Orleans. Sorry but Shreveport is just a bit too far of a drive from the Northshore!
  • There are only a couple of really good mexican restaurants on the Northshore, but they are a bit pricey and do not have a buffet like Panchos did. I think I will miss their cheese enchiladas and salsa/chips the most. Theirs was the best!!
  • I just found this site while searching to see if Pancho’s had reopened in New Orleans. I love that place. I can’t tell you how much my family loves to go there to eat when we visit my hometown of Bossier City, LA. Here in Mississippi there isn’t a place like that to enjoy. Why don’t you come here and put in a Pancho’s. The closest one I know of is in Bossier. It sure would fill a craving for a whole bunch of us. Really sorry for New Orlenans loss.
  • I have many fond memories of meeting my friends and family at the Pancho’s on Vets in Metairie. I was sad to see the Chalmette location go back in the 90’s. Please come home Pancho’s, I need flautas and sopapila’s stat! Carl Green

  • I’m sure you have heard this a million times before but please come back to louisiana.We miss pacho’s so very much.Pancho’s has been a family place in our family for over 25 years.In fact I raised my two children on Pacho’s mexican food.As a family meeting place for our huge family. I live in Ponchatoula, La. and we would cross the causeway bridge every weekend to meet the rest of the family.Maybe you would consider reopening in Hammond la. We have tried other mexican restuarant’s but none compare.Even if you would charge more for your buffet I’m possitive it would a great and welcomed success.MISSING YOU GREATLY,LINDA AND FAMILY.
  • Sure it was the gastro-intestinal equivalent of a Danielle Steel novel, but it was a favorite haunt. It was a wonderfully affordable vice and now it is gone. Excuse me… I am tearing up a bit… sort of like I did about 90 minutes after visiting Pancho’s.
  • The idea that Pancho’s has “no plans to rebuild there or relocate elsewhere in the area” because it “it is no longer safe to operate there” is an insult to the intelligence of everyone who ever stood in line for a rancid flauta.
